Cheryl Trusler, CISR Elite

Account Manager

Cheryl has been in the insurance industry since 1981, starting by working in her father’s insurance agency here in Sacramento. She has previously worked for InterWest for 13 years and re-join ed our team in 2017.  She brings a great amount of industry expertise in construction. Cheryl has a reputation for technical excellence and is CISR, Elite accredited. We know you will find Cheryl very willing to accommodate your service needs. Cheryl has been married to her husband John since 1993. They enjoy many outdoor activities such as target (pistol) practice, fly fishing and golf.  Cheryl also volunteers with Capital Therapy Dogs as the Treasurer.  Also, with Capital Therapy Dogs, she accompanies 1 or 2 of her certified therapy dogs Remy, Bailey & Teddi (all are Boston Terriers) to various Assisted Living Facilities and college campuses to bring smiles to the faces of many.

Cory Handley, CSP

Sr. Risk Control Consultant

Cory Handley joined InterWest Insurance Services in August 2013, as a Risk Control Consultant. He has over eight years of experience managing commercial construction projects across multiple industries including education, healthcare, technology, pharmaceutical, and museums. From working directly with subcontractors in the field to managing client relationships, Cory has successfully completed several multi-million dollar projects with zero loss time injuries. Cory grew up in Yreka, California (where he was raised by highly respected and responsible parents) and graduated from Yreka High School (where he left his mark as a leader in athletics). He attended Chico State University where he completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Construction Management and met his lifelong companion. Cory’s safety career began in 2005 and has been focused on improving employee’s quality of life through safe practices and behaviors. He feels this approach promotes a healthier, more accountable, and successful lifestyle in the workplace and at home. His practical approach to controlling losses aligns with simplifying processes, utilizing best practices, and integrating cutting edge technology. Cory is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). This highly respected certification is awarded to individuals who meet academic standards, satisfy professional safety experience requirements, and have passed two rigorous examinations. The examinations cover engineering and management aspects of safety, applied science, legal and regulatory matters, professional affairs, and other safety-related topics. Certified Safety Professionals specialize in protecting workers, the public, property, and the environment by identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards. The CSP directs safety programs at a corporate level to reduce risk and loss. Cory is also a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

Greg Scoville

Vice President, Program Director

Greg Scoville joined one of InterWest’s predecessor organizations, Lindo, Hanna & Abbott, in 1989, to give them a presence in Sacramento. Greg began his insurance career over 45 years ago working in his father’s insurance agency. After college, Greg continued his insurance career as a Personal Lines Manager for two years. In 1984, he began his commercial lines focus with a national insurance firm, where he specialized in construction. Greg is primarily interested in developing long-term business relationships by facilitating and representing the needs of his clients as their broker. He predominately specializes in construction and manages ASDA Risk Solutions, a successful construction program on the west coast. Greg has lived in the Sacramento area most of his life but currently lives in Northern Nevada with his wife Louisa. He enjoys the adventures of the outdoor life, from hiking in the Sierra, to fishing and hunting. Greg and Louisa have five adult children and several grandchildren.

Jordan Swanson, CAWC, CLCS

Commercial Insurance Broker

Jordan Swanson graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2014 with a degree in Economics. While earning his degree, Jordan was a student-athlete, competing on the men’s golf team for each of his four years at the university. Immediately upon graduating, he began his career in the political world, as a researcher for a national political consulting firm. Jordan joined InterWest in 2015. He joined the InterWest team because of InterWest’s outstanding reputation in the industry. He was also interested in InterWest’s hands-on risk management approach, which fits with his desire to have meaningful, long term relationships with his clients. Jordan specializes in the construction industry and has been a member of InterWest’s ASDA (Asphalt Surface Development Association) team for several years. His client base also includes transportation and non-profit organizations. Jordan was born and raised in the Sacramento area. He currently resides in Sacramento with his wife, Sara, and son, Sutter. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and is an avid sports fan.

Katie Snell

Account Manager

Katie began her insurance career in 2017 as an Administrative Assistant for one of our affiliate companies, Contractors Brokerage Services, in Sacramento. In 2019 Katie left the company to be at home fulltime with her newborn baby and in November, 2021 rejoined the InterWest family as an Assistant Account Manager in Commercial lines with ASDA. Katie assists with certificates and other day-to-day for the team. Prior to entering the insurance industry, Katie was an ACE certified fitness trainer, coaching HIIT group classes and working one on one with clients to help them achieve their personal fitness goals. Katie’s ability to work cooperatively in a team-based, goal oriented environment, combined with her personal drive, interpersonal, marketing, and sales skills make her a perfect fit within the ASDA team. She was also exposed to the world of construction at a young age. Her dad has been a general contractor since 1987 and her mom is a designer and project manager for their custom home construction business, based in Placer County. When Katie is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, running on the American River Trail and working out at the gym, as well as camping and hiking in the mountains.

Michelle Gomez

Program Administrator

Michelle started her insurance career in 2002.  Michelle’s experience includes account management in personal lines, commercial lines, and transportation.  She brings experience in the form of leadership, mentoring, and training to the team of ASDA. In 2015, she took a role as a pre-litigation case manager for a bodily injury claims attorney and is well versed in claims processes from this experience.  Michelle’s combined insurance and claims expertise has given her experience in developing an internal claims department for a transportation broker and later a Captive Insurance Group. Michelle prides herself in providing clients with exceptional service, being an advocate on their behalf, and helping others achieve success while navigating their insurance needs through account management, claims management and risk management services. When Michelle is not busy advocating for clients, she is busy being a mother, grandmother, and wife. Michelle loves to cook, travel and dance.

Rhonda Pickett

Sr. Claims Advocate, Property/Casualty/Construction Defect/Commercial Lines

Rhonda Pickett started her insurance career in 1980 working for various national carriers in several roles, before moving to Bender Insurance Solutions in 2000.  There she split her time between Commercial Lines and Claims, obtaining her Property & Casualty Brokerage license in 2001. In 2011, Rhonda joined InterWest as a Claims Advocate and was promoted to Sr. Claims Advocate in 2020. She has a strong focus on Construction Defect where her past claim experience and detailed oriented customer service strengths are seen along with applying those skills daily in her handling of auto, property and general liability claims. She continues to expand her knowledge in all aspects of client services, teamwork, claim challenges and advocacy. She draws from her own positive can-do attitude and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the insurance industry. Rhonda grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, lived in Phoenix, AZ and later settled in the Sacramento area. She graduated in 1992 from Canterbury Career College in Roseville CA. She has a son, stepson, stepdaughter, six grandchildren, a great granddaughter and great grandson. She resides in Fair Oaks, CA and loves to travel, bowl, and spending time with her family.

Sean Harker

Supervisor

Sean has been in the insurance industry since 2012. His insurance career began at his family’s independent insurance agency in Northern California as an Account Manager. Sean’s grandfather founded Rich Toreson Insurance in 1988. Sean worked alongside his brother-in-law to continue to grow the business after his grandfather’s passing. Coming from a small town, Sean is a big believer in the personal relationships developed between insurance professionals and their clients. Customer service is of the utmost importance to him; a high standard of service was engrained in him from the family business for the last decade. Sean’s previous experience allowed him to obtain a diverse background across different lines of insurance  and his exposure to several large construction accounts piqued his interest in InterWest’s  ASDA program. He joined the InterWest ASDA team in July of 2022. Sean takes pride in getting to know his clients and understanding their insurance needs and is eager to learn about their operations and everyday needs when it comes to risk management and protecting their assets. Sean recently relocated to Redding from Mount Shasta. He enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and her daughter, going to the lake, biking, and playing with his chocolate lab, Andre. He also  loves being on the golf course, is an avid sports fan, and never misses a Seattle Seahawks game. He spent 5 years coaching youth baseball and 7 years coaching high school basketball in Mount Shasta. Sean is passionate about working with younger generations in their athletic endeavors.  He values being a good team member and likes collaborating with the ASDA team and clients.
